Muzeum Śląska Opolskiego

     Muzeum Śląska Opolskiego to regionalna instytucja kulturalna z siedzibą w Opolu, posiadająca również oddział terenowy – Muzeum Czynu Powstańczego na Górze Świętej Anny. Wraz z Muzeum Piastów Śląskich w Brzegu jest jedną z najważniejszych placówek kulturalnych województwa opolskiego.

 

     Muzeum zostało założone w 1900 roku jako Muzeum Miejskie (niem. Stadtmuseum). W 1932 roku uzyskało status muzeum regionalnego, a jego siedzibę przeniesiono do barokowego budynku dawnego kolegium jezuickiego przy Małym Rynku 7, gdzie funkcjonuje do dziś. W 1980 roku do kompleksu muzealnego dołączono klasycystyczną kamienicę z lat 1817–1818 przy ul. św. Wojciecha 13 oraz sąsiadujący budynek czynszowy pod nr 9. W 1999 roku otwarto Galerię im. Jana Cybisa w budynku dawnej karczmy prowincjonalnej z początku XIX wieku przy ul. Ozimskiej 10. Z kolei część historycznych i przyrodniczych zbiorów można zobaczyć w Muzeum Czynu Powstańczego na Górze św. Anny.

 

     Na elewacji głównej siedziby muzeum znajdują się kartusze z herbami rodów Proskowsky i Lobkowitz. Muzeum gromadzi eksponaty z dziedziny archeologii, historii miasta, etnografii i sztuki, a także prowadzi działalność edukacyjną i wydawniczą.
