Rezerwat przyrody Ptasi Raj Gdańsk Sobieszewo

Rezerwat przyrody "Ptasi Raj" na Wyspie Sobieszewskiej, zajmujący obszar 188 ha, został ustanowiony w 1959 roku. Położony w północno-zachodniej części wyspy, obejmuje dwa malownicze jeziora - jezioro Karaś i jezioro Ptasi Raj. Brzegi jezior porasta szeroki obszar trzcin, a na obszarach, które kiedyś były nadmorskimi łąkami, rosną nasadzenia olchy.

Mierzeja Messyńska oddziela większe jezioro Ptasi Raj od morza, natomiast od Wisły Śmiałej jezioro to jest oddzielone malowniczą, XIX-wieczną kamienną groblą.

Głównym celem rezerwatu jest ochrona kompleksu przybrzeżnych jezior, bagien i wydm, które stanowią ważne miejsce odpoczynku dla ptaków przelotnych.

W rezerwacie występuje imponująca różnorodność flory, obejmująca ponad 320 gatunków roślin. Wśród ptaków można spotkać ponad 200 gatunków, z czego 45 z nich gniazduje na tym obszarze. Do interesujących gatunków lęgowych należą m.in. rybitwa białoczelna, sieweczka obrożna, sieweczka rzeczna, bąk, kropiatka, zielonka, wąsatka i podróżniczek.

W lipcu 2004 roku otwarto ścieżkę przyrodniczo-dydaktyczną w rezerwacie, wyposażoną w liczne tablice informacyjne na temat różnych aspektów przyrodniczych, oraz dwie wieże obserwacyjne, z których rozciąga się uroczy widok na jeziora w rezerwacie.
